Knight of St. John International and Ladies Auxiliary hold convention

Most Reverend Richard Kuuia Baawobr, the Bishop of the Wa Catholic Diocese, has said the challenges we face should inform us of the need to fulfil our obligations without surrendering to the demands of the challenges.

He said some of the challenges such as inadequate resources and excessive self-complacency should not discourage us from executing our expected roles.

He said this during the Knight of St. John International and Ladies Auxiliary’s Eighth Biennial Supreme Subordinate Convention held at the Wa campus of the University for Development Studies.

Most Reverend Baawobr said activities like conventions were there to help members to regularly remind themselves of the aims and objectives of the order which would help them remain focused in carrying out their duties.

Mr Sulemana Alhassan, the Upper West Regional Minister, in a speech read on his behalf, expressed the hope that the convention would serve as a platform for members to rededicate themselves in the spirit of loyalty and commitment to God and society.

He expressed worry about the resurgence of social vices including open display of unacceptable behaviour such as gross disrespect to authority and the elderly in society among the youth which was eating deep into the fabric of the nation.

Mr Alhassan urged the members of the Auxiliary and the public to join forces with government to fight the canker of social vices and help ensure that Ghana develops in peace and tranquillity.

The Knight of Saint John’s International and Ladies Auxiliary donated 30 pieces of student mattresses and a cheque of GHC 2,500.00 to the Saint Joseph’s orphanage in Jirapa to help improve service delivery to the disadvantaged children in the orphanage.

Reverend Sister Hyacintha Zagenye, a care taker at the orphanage, who received the items on behalf of the orphanage, expressed gratitude to the donors and gave the assurance that the items would be put to judicious use.

She appealed to well-wishers to come to their aid to help them deliver quality services to disadvantaged children in the orphanage.

Representatives from the Sierra Leone and Togo also attended the convention which was on the theme: “The Challenges Facing the Knighthood in Contemporary Times – The Way Forward”.
