Knife-wielding robber jailed 13 years

A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for robbing a young lady of her money and mobile phone at knife point.

Richmond Antwi Boasiako, an aluminium fabricator apprentice, carried out the robbery on July 23, 2015 at Atonsu-Bokruo, a suburb of Kumasi, around 11:45 pm.

He was sentenced by the Bekwai Circuit Court after pleading guilty to one count of robbery, contrary to Section 149 of Act 29/60.

Police prosecutor, Detective Inspector Stephen Ofori informed the court that the complainant, Faustina Yeboah, is unemployed and a resident of Atonsu Monaco, whilst the convict lives at Atonsu Bokruo, all suburbs of Kumasi.

According to prosecution, on July 23, 2015 at about 11:45pm while the complainant was on her way home after visiting a friend at Atonsu Bokruo, Richmond accosted her at a spot near the Sofo Maggie area.

Inspector Ofori said Richmond pulled a knife on the complainant and ordered her to surrender her HTC mobile handset valued GHc300 and GHc50 cash, which the lady complied with amidst threats.

The convict after managing to dispossess the poor lady of her valuables bolted away, the prosecutor indicated.

He narrated that the complainant who managed to recognise her attacker later made a report to police which led to the arrest of Richmond with the help of a witness in the case.

The prosecutor intimated that the police recovered the mobile phone of the complainant upon a search in the convict’s room.

Richmond admitted the offence in his caution statement and after police investigation he was charged and arraigned thereof, Inspector Ofori said.
