A five-unit dormitory for the Klefe Technical Institute (KTI) has been commissioned at Klefe in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region, with the Paramount Chief of the Klefe Traditional Area, Togbe Koku Dzaga XI, calling for support to complete other critical infrastructure projects at the school.
The facility was commissioned as part of activities marking the 2026 Klefe Yam Festival and Fund-Raising Durbar held at the Klefe Achatime Park on September 26, 2026.
The festival was held on the theme: “Harnessing Skills Development of the Youth through Technical Education: The Role of Our Communities within Government’s Reset Agenda.”
Togbe Dzaga said the completion of the dormitory marked a significant milestone in the community’s long-standing efforts to promote technical and vocational education.
He explained that funds raised through the annual festival and communal levies over the past three years had been channelled into the construction of the dormitory.
He said inadequate accommodation had constrained the growth of the institute, with some parents discouraged from enrolling their children at the school because of the limited facilities.
The Paramount Chief expressed appreciation to institutions and organisations, including the Bank of Ghana, First Sky Group, GOIL Ghana, SIC, DOSH Health Insurance and Ascend Digital Solutions, for supporting the project.
He, however, said the school still required several facilities to enable it to develop into a model technical institute.
These include an administration block, additional boys’ and girls’ dormitories, a dining hall and kitchen, an assembly hall, an additional classroom block, a fully equipped workshop, a library and ICT laboratory or e-learning centre, accommodation for the headmaster and teachers, and a playing field.
Togbe Dzaga therefore appealed to the government to include KTI in its planned education facilities expansion and school upgrade programmes.
He also appealed to individuals, corporate Ghana, parents, friends of Klefe and citizens living abroad to support the school’s development.
“We strongly believe that brick by brick, KTI would become a technical school to meet the skills needs of our nation,” he said.
The chief noted that the community had already received support from the Office of the Vice-President following an appeal made during the 2025 festival.
He said 400 desks and chairs were received on September 17, 2026, as the first batch of items requested.
The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, commissioned the new boys’ dormitory and donated 50 mattresses to improve accommodation for students.
The minister, in collaboration with the NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who was represented by Atsu Klugah, the Ho Central MP, and the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Stephen Adom, donated a total of GH¢33,000 towards community development and the completion of the remaining work.
The Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Edem Kpotosu, further announced plans to construct a four-bedroom teachers’ bungalow to improve teacher presence and engagement with students.
He explained that the long daily journeys undertaken by some teachers often reduced the time available for interaction with students. He said accommodation within the community would bring teachers closer to their learners.
Kpotosu said he would provide the building materials, while draftsmen and other skilled persons would contribute their expertise to the labour-intensive project.
Construction, he said, would begin once land for the project was secured.
Togbe Dzaga said technical education was central to building self-reliant young people, noting that practical skills in areas such as digital technology, engineering, modern agriculture, construction, fashion and sustainable manufacturing could provide young people with opportunities to create their own livelihoods.
He also urged the youth to take advantage of the expanded facilities at KTI and resist social pressures that could undermine their future, including substance abuse and unethical practices.
He called for stronger community efforts to guide young people towards skills development while also encouraging environmental responsibility in technical training and development.
He said the community was ready to work with the government, development partners and private sector organisations to upgrade local technical institutions and position Klefe as a hub for skilled and productive labour.
The chief further stressed that the development of the institute should be supported by an expanded curriculum to ensure that students acquire relevant skills needed to contribute to national development.
He described the Klefe Yam Festival as not only a celebration of the community’s heritage but also an important platform for mobilising resources for development.
