Accra, Feb. 20, GNA-Kick Malaria Africa, a non-governmental organization championing the cause of malaria eradication in the country, is to offer scholarship to the children of 20 selected door-to-door refuse collectors. The scholarships which comes in the form of education would enable the wards of the collectors to have nursery education.
Mr. Kwabena Osei-Bonsu, Chief Executive Officer of the NGO disclosed this in an interview with Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday. He said the programme, which would be in phases, would first cover collectors from Nima, Mamoobi, Pig Farm and Accra Newtown. Mr Osei-Bonsu said the aim of the NGO to offer the scholarship was to assist the collectors by offering their wards the needed education and also to promote good sanitation in the country. He said education played a very important role in the socio-economic development of every nation and that citizens must have access to it.
Mr Osei-Bonsu said the NGO would also assist the collectors by registering them for the National Health Insurance Scheme. The Chief Executive appealed to the government as well as corporate bodies and institutions to help the NGO to achieve its aim.
