The Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Eric Edem Agbana, has renewed calls for the transformation of the Ohawu Agricultural College into a full-fledged University of Agriculture, describing the initiative as a “necessity” rather than a luxury.
Speaking at the launch of this year’s Hogbetsotsoza celebrations at Ohawu Agricultural College on August 30, 2025, Agbana emphasised the critical role the Volta Region can play in advancing Ghana’s food security and agricultural development.
NPP is weaponising the NDC and we are happy – Edem Agbana
“… The transformation of Ohawu Agricultural College into a University of Agriculture is not a luxury. It is a necessity. It is a bold step we must take if we are serious about ensuring food security, creating opportunities for our youth, and positioning the Volta Region as a true breadbasket of the nation,” he said.
The MP’s call comes amid growing conversations around agricultural modernization and the need for institutions to produce skilled professionals to drive innovation in farming and agribusiness.
Agbana’s comments are expected to spark renewed debate on the future of agricultural education in Ghana, particularly at a time when food security and economic diversification remain pressing national priorities.
