The Keta Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has honoured the Honourable Member of Parliament (MP) for the Keta Constituency in the Volta Region for what the Directorate described as his exceptional support and interest for the enhancement of quality education in the municipality since 2013 to date.

The appreciation of the MP, Richard Mawuli Quashigah was done through a citation presented to him during the 2018 Best Teacher Awards event held at Keta over the weekend.

The citation which was jointly signed by the Acting Keta Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Michael Yao Tsuiatorfe and the Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Godwin Edudzi Yao Effah, said the Keta Education Directorate in particular and the Constituency at large has immensely benefited from the MP’s hardwork and commitment to the service of the country.

The citation lauded Mr. Quashigah for not only prioritizing education on his development agenda but also devoting his time, personal resources and energy to the development of his local native land to the standard of what he has seen in other civilized cities.

"You used greater part of the MP’s Common Fund to build libraries and carry out rehabilitation of numerous classroom blocks in the form of cladding or roofing in towns and deprived communities of the Keta Municipality," the citation noted.

The citation also recalled how the MP generously donated a lot of laptop computers and accessories to some schools in the constituency including the Abor R. C. and Kedzi A.M.E. Zion Basic Schools.

Quashigah was commended for donating the English Literature book entitled, ‘The Cockcrow’ to all schools in the Keta Constituency, which was used as a reference book for an inter-schools’ quiz competition event he sponsored.

"You were almost always ready to call on the Municipal Directorate of Education (MDE) to make suggestions to uplift the standard of education in the Municipality," the citation stated.

Quashigah’s generous donation and support have led to the organization of the 2018 Keta Municipal Best Teacher Awards event which saw a number of teachers from the Municipality, rewarded with prizes for their hard work and contribution to the promotion of quality education in their various schools in particular and the municipality in general.

The GES Directorate described the MP’s achievements as going beyond ordinary political ambition, adding that they are a true reflection of the deep love, sense of purpose and concern Mr. Quashigah has for the development of his constituency and the municipality in general.

"The constituency is grateful and proud to have you as a son of the soil and their representative in the National Assembly," the citation concluded.

Quashigah, who received the citation jointly from Torgbui Gatsiko III of Dzelukope and Mama Ewui II of Keta, said he was humbled by the honour done him. According to him, the citation is a motivation for him to continue to do his best for his constituents and the country as a whole.

The MP thanked the chiefs and people of the Keta Constituency for their continuous support and prayers available to him to discharge his responsibilities so far. He urged them to continue to pray for him during and after his tenure of office which expires in the midnight of 6th January, 2021.

In 2012, Quashigah stood for the Keta Parliamentary seat on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and massively won. By dint of hard work, the people of Keta re-elected him for a second four-year term which is almost three years old.

He has been credited as one of the outspoken young MPs in the National Assembly who is passionate about developmental issues affecting the people.
