Kerosene contaminated at TOUR

Accra, May 6, GNA- A consignment of kerosene has been contaminated at the Team Oil Refinery (TOUR) as a result of a fault which caused seepage in the equipment that separates kerosene and gasoline lines.

Accordingly, Ministry of Mines and Energy has directed the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOOST) to temporarily suspend the delivery of kerosene to Marketing Companies from all distribution points including TOUR pending further investigations.

This was contained in a statement issued in Accra on Friday by the Ministry and signed by Mr. I.C. Tagoe, Director Petroleum. It said a task force made up of TOR, BOST and Oil Marketing Companies has been set up to conduct test at various filling stations and other points where kerosene is sold.

The contamination is in respect of supplies delivered on April 20, 2000. "While the Ministry has taken steps to ensure the availability of certified kerosene, it regrets the inconvenience it may cause to consumers and called for co-operation to ensure public safety".

"The Ministry further assures the general public that the fault has been completely eliminated", the release added.
