The President of the Accra Institute of Technology (AIT), Professor Clement K. Dzidonu, has urged graduates to continuously upgrade their skills as artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies reshape the workplace.

Addressing the Class of 2026 at AIT’s 22nd graduation ceremony, Professor Dzidonu said the rapid pace of technological change required graduates to take responsibility for continuously developing their knowledge and professional capabilities.

He encouraged them to become what he described as “Sovereign Lifelong Learners” who remain committed to learning beyond their formal education.

Professor Dzidonu also challenged the graduates to “See the Opportunity, Explore the Possibility and Create the Difference,” urging them to use their education to create value and contribute meaningfully to society.

The ceremony saw 572 students graduate from AIT’s doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s programmes.

The graduates comprised eight PhD scholars, 69 master’s students and 495 bachelor’s graduates. Of the bachelor’s graduates, 405 completed campus-based programmes, while 90 graduated through the university’s Open University programmes.

A key milestone at the ceremony was the graduation of eight new PhD scholars, taking AIT’s cumulative number of PhD graduates to more than 100.

Professor Dzidonu described the milestone as significant for the relatively young university.

He said more than half of AIT’s PhD graduates had attained professorial rank within three years of completing their doctoral studies.

According to him, AIT’s PhD graduates are also contributing to Ghana’s higher education sector, with alumni occupying academic and senior administrative positions at public and private universities.

Chairman of the AIT Board of Trustees, Emeritus Professor Ivan Addae-Mensah, also urged the graduates to make effective use of the knowledge and opportunities gained from their education.

He reminded them that graduation marked the beginning of a new phase rather than the end of their learning journey.

AIT’s postgraduate research programmes cover areas including engineering, information technology, education and business administration.

The university is accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to offer campus-based and Open University undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
