Kasoa blaze was contained by Fire Service, not civilians – GNFS

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed that the fire outbreak which occurred at Lucky Media/Herbal Clinic in Kasoa on the morning of Monday, June 16, 2025, was successfully contained by GNFS personnel.

This clarification comes in response to a viral video circulating on social media that inaccurately suggests members of the public were responsible for extinguishing the blaze.

“The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) wishes to inform the general public that the fire outbreak which occurred at Lucky Media/Herbal Clinic, located in Kasoa, on the morning of Monday, June 16, 2025, was successfully and fully contained by GNFS firefighters and not by members of the public, as inaccurately portrayed in a viral video circulating on social media,” the statement read.

According to the GNFS, it received a distress call and immediately dispatched firefighters from the Kasoa Fire Station.

"A support crew from the Anyaa Fire Station later joined the effort. Together, they brought the fire under control by 09:30 hours, and it was completely extinguished at 10:54 hours.

"The fire, caused by a gas cylinder explosion from unattended cooking, affected the first floor of a one-storey structure used as both a studio and residential apartment with seven rooms. Though there were no injuries, the entire upper floor and its contents were destroyed.

“Unfortunately, during the course of the firefighting operation, some civilians unlawfully interfered by forcefully snatching a firefighting hose and attempting to fight the fire themselves. This reckless action occurred while power had not yet been isolated from the premises by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG),” the Service noted.

The GNFS condemned the incident, describing it as a punishable offence under Ghanaian law.

“The GNFS strongly condemns this act of obstructing lawful duty, which is a punishable offense under Ghanaian law. Such behaviour is not only unlawful but extremely dangerous, as it exposes individuals to electrocution, secondary explosions, and potential fatalities,” it noted.

The Service emphasised the need for public cooperation during emergencies.

“The Ghana National Fire Service urges the public to cooperate fully during emergency operations. Fire scenes must be left under the full control of trained professionals to ensure effective and safe firefighting operations, as any interference is a serious risk to lives and property,” it added.
