Reports of an early-morning fire outbreak at the North Industrial Area in Avenor, Accra, went viral on social media as firefighters rushed to the scene to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other properties.
Photos and videos on social media captured thick smoke and flames rising from the area, with several businesses and residential properties.

Subsequent reports indicated that the fire started at the Duraplast Company premises.
According to an eyewitness account shared in a post on X on Thursday, October 1, 2026, firefighters had arrived at the scene but were facing difficulties accessing the affected area due to poor road access.
Police reinforcement arrives at scene to support emergency response
Officers from the Ghana Police Service arrived at the scene a few hours later to assist with the emergency response.
The officers are working alongside firefighters and other responders as efforts continue to bring the situation under control.
Workers attempt to save nearby property
Workers at Duraplast were also seen making efforts to rescue Polytank products and other items as the fire spread through parts of the facility.
The extent of the damage to the affected companies and surrounding properties is yet to be established.
Civilian injured
A civilian who attempted to rescue people reportedly trapped in the fire sustained injuries in the process.
The injured person was seen receiving assistance as efforts continued to contain the blaze.
Eyewitnesses, workers in shock
Eyewitnesses and workers of Duraplast were seen at the scene, visibly shocked as the fire continued to burn.
Some eyewitnesses also shared accounts of how the incident unfolded.
“Just this morning around 6:30 Am. We were loading cars at our workplace, then we saw the explosion, so we decided to come and check what was happening, just to realise that the fire had already started burning,” an eyewitness said.
Another worker said he was informed about the fire while he was asleep.
“I was asleep when I received a call that our company was burning, then I rushed to this, so I don't know the actual time the fire started,” he said.
