KUMACA deaths: Autopsy reports not ready – Health Minister

Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has revealed that reports of the autopsy conducted on four dead students of the Kumasi Academy (KUMACA) are still not ready.

Briefing the Members of Parliament on the KUMACA crisis on Friday, the Health Minister said, “We still as at last night having done three autopsies on the dead students, we had only completed with one.”

To this effect, he said his outfit is working assiduously to complete all outstanding laboratory investigations and autopsy on the bodies.

Mr. Agyeman-Manu also hinted that the Health and Education ministries, the Ghana Health Service and the Ghana Education Service have recommended that students continue to remain on campus so as to enable final conclusions on response actions.

He said the ministry is strengthening the sensitisation and public education and steps are being taken to improve the health of students and staff at KUMACA and the nation at large.

Meanwhile, according to the minister, the Health Ministry has procured some antiviral agents Tamiflu to manage the situation at KUMACA because it “has been used and it looks like it has succeeded in containing and treating the disease”.
