KNUST to train people for the oil industry

Accra, Sept 19, GNA - Mr. Felix Owusu Agyepong, Minister of Energy on

Friday said the ministry would soon go into partnership with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to train people in manpower for the emerging oil economy.

"The sector will need all sort of manpower, skills and technological know how to enable Ghana to fully realize the benefits, the ministry will therefore use every good advice to make it a blessing", he said. Mr. Owusu Agyepong said this when he received the British High Commissioner to Ghana and the UK Trade and Investment Chief Executive to

discuss trade partnership and cooperation in the oil and energy sector.

Mr. Nicholas Westcott, British High Commissioner to Ghana congratulated Ghana on the discovery and urged the country to learn from its mistakes to enable it make the best out of the oil find. He said one mistake Britain made with her oil was "we allowed the drilling fluid to sit on the seabed." He said the oil industry was a set of complicated chain requiring qualified expertises to ensure its optimum benefits, "Even the UK brought on board people from other countries with the requisite expertise to help".
