KNUST to train dieticians and nutritionists

Kumasi, June 8, GNA - The Department of Bio-Chemistry and Bio-Technology of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is to begin a programme in human nutrition and dietetics to train more professionals in these areas.

Professor Aboagye Menyeh, Provost of the College of Science of the University, said the programme had become necessary to tackle the inadequacy of professional nutritionists and dieticians. He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi that the department had already taken delivery of teaching and learning aids from United Kingdom (UK).

These include journals, books and video cassettes and were donated by some philanthropists. Prof Menyeh said the importance of nutritionists and dieticians in all sectors of human life could simply not be discounted and appealed for support, especially from corporate bodies for smooth take off of the programme. He asked for the assistance of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to furnish the lecture theatres, classrooms and laboratories. 09 June 10
