Twelve excelling law students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have received scholarships from the Lebanese Community in a ceremony at the Vice Chancellor’s office, Kumasi.

To the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, HE Ali Halabi, the gesture forms part of several initiatives by the Lebanese Community to contribute to the welfare of Ghanaians.

He said in his address that “…this is in appreciation of the strong bonds which the Lebanese Community shares with the people of Ghana, and their desire to replicate Ghana's contributions to the people of Lebanon, over several decades, including Peace Keeping.

“This particular scholarship covers the full tuition fees, and part of the accommodation fees. I've been happy to see this scheme grow over the past few years to cover different groups of recipients.”

He added that “Currently, there are well over a hundred Ghanaian students benefitting yearly from these scholarships in one form or another. Brilliant law students from the University of Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, as well as excellent students from the Ghana
“Institute of Journalism (Degrees and Masters) and the Ghana School of Law are benefitting from these schemes.

“In addition, children of the martyrs of the Ghana Armed Forces and also children of Ghana's Immigration and Police services are also being assisted by this scheme to complete their education.

“To the students, I wish you continue to excel in your education in order to build a career that allows you to contribute to the development of your wonderful country.”

Vice Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Professor Kwasi Obini-Danso said “The Lebanese Community has demonstrated that they are indeed a pillar to the development of law. You have shown care not only in the field of education and monetary wise but also showing concern for the welfare of the students by this continuous mentorship.”

A representative of the beneficiaries said “ We thank the Lebanese Community in Ghana for their unwavering devotion towards contributing their quota to the development of Ghana.”

The dean, Dr Lydia Apori Nkansah stated that “Investment in legal education is an excellent endeavour as law is the bedrock and foundation upon which society is built.”
