Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has clarified that the university has not taken a final decision on the proposed review of its Statutes.

The clarification follows a statement issued by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), KNUST Branch, on September 10, 2026, following a meeting of the Academic Board on September 9 to consider the university’s statutes in line with the KNUST Act, 2025 (Act 1157).

Management said the Academic Board, at the meeting, received and considered the draft report of the Statutes Committee and made inputs into the report.

It explained that the report of the Academic Board, together with the draft Statutes and recommendations, will subsequently be submitted to the University’s Governing Council for consideration, review and possible approval.

Management, therefore, said it would be premature to attribute a final institutional position to KNUST or suggest that a determination had been made on the matters raised by UTAG.

“The process is therefore ongoing, and it would be premature to attribute a final institutional position to the University or to suggest that any determination has been made on the matters raised by UTAG,” Management said in a statement dated September 10, 2026.

According to Management, the review is being conducted in the spirit of inclusiveness, consultation and transparency, while respecting the University’s established governance structures.

It added that the views and legitimate concerns of relevant stakeholders would continue to receive due consideration through the appropriate governance channels.
