KNUST Launches Library Strategic Plan

Kumasi, May 17, GNA - The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), on Friday launched a seven-year Library Strategic Plan in Kumasi to ensure proper management of its libraries. The Plan, dubbed (ULSP 2K14), would be implemented by a six-member committee chaired by Mrs. Helena R. Asamoah-Hassan, a librarian of the University.

Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa, Vice Chancellor of KNUST, who launched the Plan, emphasised the importance of library facilities in enhancing teaching, learning and research works in universities. He appealed to the committee to work assiduously to ensure that the university's libraries were stocked with adequate textbooks, journals, teaching aids and other materials to assist the students in their studies.

Professor Adarkwa urged individuals, churches, organizations and others to donate books and other materials to enable the institution attain its objectives.

Mrs. Asamoah-Hassan commended the British Council and other organizations for providing textbooks and other materials to the libraries.

She assured that the committee would discharge its duties well towards the success of the plan.

Mr Moses Anibaba, Director of British Council, Ghana, who earlier donated over 800,000 assorted books to the university's main library, hoped that they would be put to good use. Barclays Bank Limited and the First Allied Savings and Loans Limited also presented cheques for GH¢3,000 and GH¢500 respectively to support the expansion of the libraries.
