KNUST Alumni Association launches scholarship scheme

The Alumni Association of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has launched a scholarship scheme in support of needy but brilliant students from less endowed senior high schools.

The just ended Global Council Meeting of the Association at the Conference Room, Great Hall, Kumasi, on Saturday, May 16, formally adopted and launched the scheme as a permanent outreach programme as part of its corporate social responsibility.

In 2009, a pilot project undertaken by the Association, supported Mr Patrick Baah Odopleh and Ms Dinah Mawuena Akogo with full scholarship and they have successfully completed their programmes.

Dr Kwame Saarah– Mensah, Acting KNUST Council Chairman and also Past President and Past General Secretary of the Alumni Association launched the scholarship scheme.

Participants at the Council Meeting made up of the Global Executive Committee and representatives from seven regional Chapters raised GH? 14,000.00 for the scheme.

The Association called on past students of KNUST and well-meaning Ghanaians and corporate bodies to support the scholarship scheme in order to upscale and expand the scheme to cover more students.

To kick off the scheme, the meeting launched the “Operation GH? 100,000.00 per year” campaign, asking alumni to donate GH? 100.00 per member per year towards its sustenance.

All contributions are to be paid into the Association’s GCB Bank account:
