KMA to establish four computer laboratories in Kumasi.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) will establish one computer laboratory in each of the four sub-metropolitan education offices in Kumasi to expose children in the metropolis to modern computer science and information technology.

Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, who said this at the Annual Carlos Festival of Manhyia sub-metropolitan Education Office in Kumasi on Wednesday, said some of the Kumasi schools would be linked to other school in Britain, Holland and United States of America (USA) in educational exchange programmes.

He said, extra instruments would be purchased, in addition to the 17-million cedi band instruments, which were recently donated to the metropolitan education directorate by the KMA to form a modern orchestra group in the metropolis.

Mr. Jumah urged teachers to actively involve themselves in the country's local government system and present themselves for the impending district assembly elections.

Mrs. Gladys Kwapong, Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Education expressed gratitude to School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent-Teachers Associations (PTAs) in the metropolis for their immense contribution to the development of education.

The Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (F-CUBE) programme, she said, demands a lot of commitment and sacrifice from teachers and advised them to work very hard.

She implored heads of basic schools to "mount surveillance on recalcitrant teachers", and ensure maximum discipline and supervision in schools.

Mr. Emmanuel Omenako Danquah, Assistant Director in-charge of Manhyia Sub-Metropolitan Education Office said, the festival was aimed at taking stock of achievements and failures for appraisal and also remind teachers and pupils of the love of God for mankind.

Mr. Robert Owusu Aboagye, Headmaster of KRONOM JSS, who presided, commended the teachers for their dedication and good performance.

Seventy-two hard working and best teachers selected from each school in the sub-metropolitan office, were presented with awards by the various SMCS' and PTAs'.
