KATH to decongest facility in 2018

Authorities of the Konfo Anokye Teaching Hospital(KATH) have announced plans to decongest the facility next year as the hospital has been unable to provide care to scores of patients who visit the facility.

This is because most of the wards are congested.

The Chief Executive of the Hospital, Dr Oheneba Danso has called on government to help expand the hospital and complete its new wards to serve more patients.

“One of the critical things facing KATH is space, the Accident and Emergency Centre. Care in that centre is gradually becoming more and more challenging for want of space and it’s the reason we’re crying out to get our 40-year-old maternity block to be completed just so that once the entire maternity wing is completed and cases are moved there it will create more spaces for us.

“We’re getting cases from all the regions across the country and to some extent from our neighbouring countries and so therefore when it comes to injuries and injury care, this centre becomes very prime in terms of the surgeries we do here and it’s attracting patients at any point in time. So when we get such emergencies and they’ve been tried and managed beyond emergency situation, we need to take them to the wards.

When the wards are full, as the emergency area is always encumbered, that’s not the way to care for emergency patients. So we’re crying out to have that project cleared.”
