Management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has debunked a viral social media video alleging that the hospital detains patients over their inability to settle medical bills.
In a statement issued by the management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, the institution stated that it does not detain patients under any circumstances.
According to the hospital’s management, patients who remain at the facility beyond their official discharge dates due to financial challenges are adequately cared for.
“Management wishes to categorically state that KATH does not detain patients under any circumstances. Instances where patients remain in the hospital beyond their official discharge dates are purely the result of financial constraints, specifically the inability of patients or their families to settle outstanding medical bills incurred during the course of treatment.

“During such extended stays, KATH continues to demonstrate its commitment to patient welfare by providing ongoing care, including meals and other basic support, until appropriate arrangements are made,” the statement said.
The hospital's management further urged the general public, including the media, to refrain from spreading false information, emphasizing that the hospital remains committed to professionalism and patient respect.
“…Management therefore urges the media and the general public to refrain from publishing or sharing misleading information that could misrepresent the hospital’s operations and undermine public confidence in the institution.
“KATH remains dedicated to delivering quality healthcare with compassion, professionalism, and respect for the rights and dignity of all patients,” it added.
