KATH can now reduce breast size through surgery

Kumasi, May 6, GNA - A team of plastic surgeons in the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and their counterparts from Germany will conduct special reconstruction surgeries this month. The surgeries will correct breast abnormalities, arm and other post burn complications at a subsidised fee for those without health insurance but free for insurance holders.

Dr. Joseph Apaloo, a specialist with the Plastic Surgery Unit of KATH Directorate of Surgery, said this in Kumasi in a statement. He said women whose breasts have been removed because of cancer, those with breast deformities as well as others who want large breasts size reduced, could show up for screening, selection and subsequently the surgery.

People with six or crooked fingers and scars arising out of severe burns would also be taken care of.

Dr. Apaloo said screening of patients would take place on May 7 and 8 and called on patients to report at the Specialist Consulting Room Nine 'B' (9b) between 0800 hours and 1400 hours. Those selected would be operated upon a week later. 06 May 09
