A Political Science Lecturer has described the Member of Parliament for Adanse Asokwa as “emotionally incompetent”.
Prof. Amoako Baah of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) said the outburst and verbal attack on Hon. Benjamin Kumbour by Hon. K. T. Hammond in Parliament on Wednesday, was unwarranted and needless.
In his view, it clearly underlines his intolerance to some politicians in the country. He, however, prescribed that a stiff punishment be meted out to the Adanse Asokwa MP, preferably, a ban from the august House for some time.
He was speaking to Adakabre Frimpong Manso on NEAT FM on the near bust-up that occurred on Wednesday.
A fiery scene was enacted in Parliament when the Majority Leader, Benjamin Kunbuor, in championing an anti-corruption crusade by politicians, mentioned the Woyome and oil drill ship saga. He opined that the ‘Woyome case’ and the ‘Drill Ship saga’ has heightened the perception that Ghanaian politicians are corrupt.
But a fuming K.T Hammond, who was a Deputy Minister of Energy in the erstwhile Kufuor administration and the one who spearheaded the sale of the Drill Ship, labeled his colleague, who he later described as a very good friend, as “foolish, Stupid, Nonsense and useless” for referring to the issue of the Drill Ship as one of the cases that has amplified the slant that politicians are corrupt.
Hon. K.T. Hammond later apologized for his unruly behavior in the august House but Prof. Amoako Baah insists he should be dragged to the Privileges Committee of the august House of Parliament for exhibiting “emotional incompetence”.
He also expressed amazement at the level of indiscipline exhibited on the floor of Parliament and called for an immediate check so as not to get to a point where Parliamentarians would engage in fisticuffs.
