Justice for DSP Nanka Bruce still in a limbo after 2 years - STRANEK

The Strategic Thinkers Network (STRANEK), a think tank is demanding justice for DSP Nanka Bruce who was assaulted at the Jubilee House two years ago.

The policy think tank says it is surprised the attackers of the police officer have not been prosecuted two years after the attack.

Executive Director of STRANEK, Nii Tettey Tetteh, in a release admonished government to deal with the offenders as it promised Ghanaians.

STRANEK in its release said it has sent a number of petitions to the presidency and yet, nothing fruitful has come out of them.

The think tank is therefore calling on authorities to deal with the attackers of the police officer.

‘’As advocates for the protection of human rights, we once again remind H.E. the President of the oath he swore to protect and defend the Constitution of Ghana and to do good to all manner of persons.

It is our hope that he gives meaning to the oath he swore, by ensuring that justice is served,’’ the statement said.

JUSTICE FOR DSP NANKA BRUCE STILL IN A LIMBO AFTER 2 YEARS- STRANEK

STRANEK-AFRICA extends seasons greetings to you all, wishing the very best of the new year.

As a major stakeholder in the struggle for good governance and rule of law, we wish to once again draw the attention of H.E. President Akuffo-Addo and his government to an action which occurred on 9th January, 2017, exactly 2 years ago.

This action by some thugs associated with the New Patriotic Party government, led to a brutal assault on the head of Police Security at the Flagstaff House, DSP Nanka Bruce at the time.

The assault according to reports, extended to his official residence with his personal vehicles forcibly taken and towed away by these thugs. This event was captured on CCTV camera and intercepted by various news media and other social media portals.

Following the widespread condemnation of this act, government assured the Ghanaian populace that persons alleged to have been involved in the assault of the police chief were going to be located, arrested and dealt with according to law. Indeed, in March , 2017, we are aware that a circuit court in Accra issued a warrant for the arrest of the perpetrators of these crimes.

We at STRANEK-AFRICA have since monitored and followed keenly, steps of government and law enforcement agencies in carrying out these arrests and bringing justice to the assaulted police chief.

Unfortunately, we have been extremely disappointed as no effort seems to have been made to carry out the court order.

We have since sent series of petitions to H.E. the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo, H.E. the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Hon. Chief of Staff at the Presidency, the Inspector General of Police, the Directors of Criminal and Investigations Department and Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police. Yet, not a single one of these petitions has been replied to or acted upon.

Our checks have revealed, even more disturbingly, that some of the alleged culprits have since found their way into security agencies as employees.

We believe that this trend has the propensity to breed lawlessness especially at the highest office of the land. All efforts to get justice for him seem to be falling on deaf ears.

As advocates for the protection of human rights, we once again remind H.E. the President of the oath he swore to protect and defend the Constitution of Ghana and to do good to all manner of persons.

It is our hope that he gives meaning to the oath he swore, by ensuring that justice is served.
