Junior Staff College to be relocated

Accra, Sept. 14, GNA - The Ghana Armed Forces and the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT) in Ghana have signed a 16 billion-cedi contract to relocate the Junior Staff College from the Military Academy and Training Schools at Whistler Barracks to the Senior Division at Otu Barracks.

A statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces in Accra on Thursday said under the agreement, BMATT would bear two-thirds of the cost of the project, while the Ghana Armed Forces would fund the remaining one-third.

It said the project, which is expected to be completed in a year, would consist of an Administration Block and Syndicate Rooms as well as 40 living-room accommodation.

The statement said the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. J.B. Danquah, signed for the Ghana Armed Forces while Colonel Hum Lawford, Commander of BMATT, signed on behalf of his team.

Lt Gen. Danquah recalled the cordial ties between the British and Ghana Armed Forces saying this was seen in the increasing numbers of joint exercises, courses and other exchange programmes involving them. He thanked the British Government for their continued support to the Ghana Armed Forces and pledged that the facilities would also be made available to military officers from other African countries. Col. Lawford expressed the hope that the relocation of the Junior Division would further enhance the credibility and reputation of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College.
