The Judicial Board of the University of Ghana Student Representative Council (SRC) has adjourned the hearing of an impeachment case against the SRC President, Isaac Agyemang to Thursday 12th March 2020 at 6 pm.

This is the second time the case is being adjourned.

At Saturday’s hearing, which was at the Mensah Sarbah Hall, both the petitioners and the defense counsel presented their case.

However, the Judicial Board decided to adjourn the case after the petitioners failed to serve the Board and the counsel for the defense with the evidence to be used in the case.

The Board thus instructed the petitioners, and the defense counsel to serve both parties and the Judicial Board with all documents to be used as evidence before the next hearing scheduled for 12th March.

The petitioners are accusing Isaac Agyemang of breaching Chapter 5 of the SRC Constitution, and that, they believe warrants his removal from office.

Chapter five of the SRC constitution outlines grounds for the removal of an officer of the SRC from office.

Article 23 specifically states that such a person may be removed if he/she is found;

1.“To have acted in violation of the oath of office set out in the first or second schedule to, or in violation of this constitution; or

2.To have conducted himself in a manner;

3.Which brings or is likely to bring the high office of President or Vice president or Secretary or Treasurer, into disrepute, ridicule or contempt; or Prejudicial or inimical to the interests of students; or

4.To be incapable of performing the functions of his office by reason of infirmity of body or mind or

6.To have embezzled funds or recklessly handled the finances of the SRC or

7.To be inefficient or negligent in the discharge of his/her duties.”
