Juaso hospital psychiatry unit receives support

The Psychiatry Unit of the Juaso District Hospital has received assorted equipment in support of its operation.

These included executive swivel chairs, a 21-inch LED television set, a refrigerator, waiting chairs, blood pressure apparatus, steel file cabinet and an office chair and desk.

They were gifts jointly donated by the Centre for the Development of People (CEDEP) and Basic Needs Ghana (BNG), both NGOs, which seeks to promote mental health issues through public awareness campaign.

Mr. Charles Sakyi, the Deputy Director of CEDEP, presenting the items at a ceremony, said they would continue to work hard to highlight issues relating to mental health care to attract the desired attention.

He pledged to make similar donations to all 30 district hospitals in the Ashanti Region.

He said the two organisations have stepped up efforts to campaign to help treat mental patients with human dignity and to refer them to the health facilities instead of prayer camps.

Dr. Eugene Agyei Aboagye, the Medical Superintendent, said they were grateful for the gesture.
