Journalists Recommend WAEC Conduct Teacher Training Entrance Examinations

The International Club of Journalist for Children's Rights (ICJCR) on Monday recommended that the West African Admission into teacher training institutions. In a resolution on the free compulsory universal basic education (FCUBE) adopted at the end of the seventh annual review conference, members said there is the need for a drastic review of the admission procedures into teacher training institutions to ensure that the right calibre of people end up in the classroom as teachers. To ensure equitable distribution of teachers and the success of the FCUBE programme, incentive packages (UCHA) free accommodation and other allowances should be instituted to motivate teachers who accept posting to deprived areas. The conference, held at Sunyani from November 12 to 14 under the theme, "The free compulsory universal basic education (FCUBE) programme and the Ghanaian Child"., Also recommended that the implementation of the proposed distance education programme be speeded up to enable teachers to upgrade their academic qualification to improve the quality of their instructional delivery. Again, the Ghana Education Service should strengthen its supervisory and monitoring roles, and make guidance and learning. They also called for the restructuring of government, Cocobod and other corporate scholarship schemes to benefit more deprived children. The government should continuously strive to create the ideal environment for academic work to enhance the successful implementation of the FCUBE programme, the resolution said.
