Jon Benjamin debunks rumors of having bad relationship with Mahama

UK High Commissioner has refuted claims that he didn't get along with the Mahama administration - He says he had a pretty good working relationship with the former head of state and his government The outgoing British High.

Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Jon Benjamin, has denied claims that he had a troublesome working relationship with former president John Dramani Mahama.

According to the UK High Commissioner who'll be ending his term in office come this July, even though he came to loggerheads several times with elements of the erstwhile Mahama administration he had a good working relationship with Ghana's immediate former head of state.

"I had a very good relationship with President Mahama…I enjoyed working with President Mahama and the relations with this government is also very good.”

The outgoing head of the British diplomatic mission related that as it stands, diplomats are expected to work well with whatever government currently in place and that he had enjoyed working with both the John Mahama, and Nana Akufo Addo administrations.

He stated that since Britain and Ghana were both democracies, diplomats across board had to work well with each other's elected government officials.

"There is never a complete agreement on anything but what is important is honesty and a good relationship so you can deal with difficult issues when they come up," he said.

Touching on the problem of corruption, he stated that the problem is deeply ingrained in Ghana and is causing major damage to her people. As far he is concerned, he said the issue "has gotten worse in Ghana and that is my honest opinion.”
