Jomoro Municipal Assembly chalks 61.5% performance in BECE - MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Jomoro Municipal Assembly of the Western Region, Mr Ernest Kofie has revealed that the Assembly chalked 61.5 per cent pass in the 2017 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Mr Ernest Kofie made this known during the First Ordinary Meeting of the Assembly held on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at the Municipal Assembly's Hall, Half Assini.

He said 2091 candidates from both private and public Junior High Schools in the Municipality sat for the 2017 BECE.

He disclosed that their performances were very encouraging and that their performances were better than the previous year and also be full of hope that this year's performance will be improved.

He thanked the teachers for the excellent job done, "I pray the toil and struggle for excellence by both teachers and the students indeed pays".

The MCE used the occasion to wished all candidates who are writing this year's WASSCE and BECE candidates who are yet to write their final exams next month a great success.

"I want to use this opportunity to wish all candidates for this year's WASSCE and BECE a great success", he wished them well.

He prayed to God to give the candidates the spirit of remembrance and also guide them hence chalk another success.

He used the occasion to appeal to all stakeholders in the Municipality to join in the campaign against teenage pregnancy situation in some schools.

"I also appeal to all stakeholders to join in the crusade fight against the incidence of teenage pregnancy in our schools and among the youth", he pledged.

He emphasized that these children are the future leaders of this country and must be properly trained and given proper care to them.

He disclosed that the Municipal Assembly has given scholarship packages to some brilliant and needy students to further their education at the tertiary levels in the country in the aim of getting more teachers to come in the near future to teach the children in the Municipality.

He advised the beneficiaries to study hard and make good use of their books.

"I advise them to take their study seriously and make good use of their books, they were given the scholarship packages on merit, not on political affiliation", he emphasized.

He revealed that the Municipality lacks teachers who are to go to the rural areas to teach and therefore appealed to the Ghana Education Service and Ministry of Education to come to their aid and deploy some trained teachers to the rural areas of the Assembly and teach.

He said under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Project (IPEP) the Assembly in partnership with the Member of Parliament of the area, Hon. Paul Essien has selected three institutions to benefit from 10 seater WC toilet facilities and the beneficial institutions include Ahobre JHS, Elubo Catholic JHS and Annor Adjaye SHS Girl's dormitory.

He ended his speech by saying nine (9) basic schools in the Municipality have been added to the Ghana School Feeding Programme in the aim of increasing enrollment in these schools and these are the new schools selected; Bonyere Catholic Primary, Takinta Primary, Elubo Catholic Primary, Twenen Primary School, Nuba Primary A, Ezilinbo Primary School, Nuba Primary B and Bonyere Methodist Primary School.
