John Peter Amewu shouldn't dare to contest Hohoe seat - Richard Quashigah warns

Member of Parliament for Ketu Constituency in the Volta Region, Richard Mawuli Koku Quashigah has advised the Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu to rescind his decision to contest the Hohoe Constituency seat on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He stressed that there will be a dramatic effect for Peter Amewu as already people in the constituency are not happy with the happenings with the creation of the Oti Region.

Speaking on Joy FM, Richard Quashigah explained that the people of Akpafo community which used to be part of the Hohoe constituency has been forcefully included to the Oti Region and the people of Hohoe are not happy with that decision of the government.

However, Richard Quarshigah will not be contesting the Keta seat for the third time.

“So the entire area is not just for the NPP this time around, and if they got 5 percent previously in elections, they are likely to get something lower. Again, the Akpafo area which felt they have been forcefully included to a particular region will also even if they were people who were sympathetic towards the NPP, going to turn against the NPP,” he asserted.

He reiterated that, “it is a bad deal not for only the NPP this time around but for Peter Amewu who is contesting the Hohoe seat. There are so many things that we can point to which are likely to affect the fortunes of the NPP”.

He said that the NPP should have taken advantage of the creation of the Oti Region to maximise their votes in the 2020 elections but rather their actions and inactions will turn into a nightmare for them in the Hohoe areas.

An advocate group is clamoring for the Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu, to contest the Hohoe Constituency Parliamentary seat in the 2020 general elections.

The Agenda for Development group believes, Mr. Amewu’s commitment to the physical and human resource development of the constituency, positions him as the best individual to represent the constituency in Parliament.

Addressing a press conference in Hohoe on Wednesday, the group’s Public Relations Officer, George Dogbe, indicated that the Energy Minister has a proven track record of a workaholic, development-oriented, not self-seeking and has exhibited qualities of an exemplary leader.

He outlined that Mr. Amewu was instrumental in the construction of a stadium in Hohoe, provision of street lights in all communities in the constituency, donation of a brand new Mitsubishi Pick-up to the Hohoe Municipal Education Directorate and 11 motorbikes to circuit supervisors among other benevolence gestures.

“It is against this background that market women, barbers, teachers, carpenters, taxi drivers, Okada riders, farmers, nurses, etc are all here to add their voices to the call for Hon John Peter Amewu to contest the Hohoe seat,” he stressed.

He further stated that the Agenda for Development group which he claimed has membership from across the political divide, mobilised resources internally to purchase the NPP Parliamentary nomination forms for Mr. Amewu to contest the primaries.

“ . . we are calling on him [John Peter Amewu] in all humility to make himself available immediately,” Mr. Dogbe pleaded.

Meanwhile, snippet of reliable information available to Peacefmonine.com indicates that the Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu will contest on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), unopposed as its Parliamentary Candidate for the Hohoe Constituency.
