John Dramani Mahama, former President and Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has presented 40 sets of complete Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to the Keta Municipal Hospital in support of the COVID-19 fight.

The donation, which included alcohol-based hand sanitisers, surgical gloves, hand gloves and boots came few days after a request letter purported to be coming from the hospital went viral indicating it was in dire need of PPEs to help the fight.

Prof Margaret Kweku, Epidemiologist and Parliamentary Candidate for the NDC in the Hohoe Constituency on behalf of the former President said it had become critical for “us all to join hands to fight this ...pandemic.”

She said the former President had been very active and instrumental in his quest to help the nation fight the pandemic with the donation of PPEs to hospitals across the region and the country and that there was no way Keta would be left out.

Prof. Kweku said through the Party's technical team on COVID-19, “is pleased that many of the recommendations we submitted to government appear to have been taken on board by government, we reinforce our Flagbearer’s recommendation that there is an urgent need to build medical research centres to support more proactive efforts and preparedness when faced with issues like this.”

Dr Anthoinette A. Ekuban, the Medical Director, Keta Municipal Hospital thanked Mr Mahama and members of the Volta Region COVID-19 Technical Team for the presentation, saying, it would help a great deal in the fight against the pandemic.

She said the hospital had received so much support from individuals and organisations including the Member of Parliament for the area, and the local Assembly but still needed more because just as across the country and the world, there was the need to adequately equip frontline health workers with PPEs.
