John Mahama collapsed Obuasi Mine - Gabby Otchere-Darko claims

Founder of the Danquah Institute, Gabby Otchere-Darko has in a tweet blamed the collapse of the Obuasi Mine on the John Mahama administration.

According to him, the Mahama administration has ‘killed’ many jobs whereas the Akufo-Addo administration has ‘created’ more.

“Obuasi mine collapsed under the Mahama Govt. The Akufo-Addo Govt has revived it. One kills jobs. One creates jobs,” Gabby Otchere-Darko said this via his Twitter handle;@GabbyDarko on January 29 ahead of the commencement of the first gold pour of the Redeveloped Anglo Gold Ashanti Obuasi Mine commemorated by the President Akufo-Addo on Wednesday.

The post has however received some 78 retweets and close to 100 replies on Twitter.

The Obuasi Mine, managed by the AngloGold Ashanti Limited on Wednesday, January 29 returned to productivity after its first gold pour since 2014.

President Akufo-Addo said the comapny has agreed it will contribute US$2 for every ounce of gold produced into a Community Trust Fund, over the lifespan of its Obuasi Mine to facilitate development projects in the local communities of the area.

According to him, a one-off contribution of US$250,000 has been paid into the Trust Fund to develop these local communities ahead of the company’s commencement of gold production at the mine.
