Joe-Moo School Complex wins Jan Binder Award

The Joe-Moo School Complex at Bodwesango near Fomena in the Adansi-North District of the Ashanti Region, has won the second Jan Binder Award for cleanliness, and also maintaining a green environment.

They received a giant certificate which was presented jointly by two financial institutions, Opportunity International Deutschland (OID) and Sinapi Aba Savings and Loans.

The Award Scheme was initiated by the OID in honour of Jan Binder, a German expatriate worker of the organization, who lost his life in Ghana in 2011 at the age of 31.

The first award was won by the Amazing Child School in Kumasi, a couple of years ago.

Presenting the certificate, Stefan Knuppel, an official of OID, said the award targeted micro credit-financed schools which placed prominence on cleanliness and also maintained green environment.

He said the OID, would through the awards, encourage schools to be environmentally-conscious.

He advised the pupils to concentrate on their studies to enhance their career development.

Ms. Marta Binder, also an OID official and mother of the late Jan Binder, noted that it was her son’s vision to advance the cause of the environment, and that the organization would continue from where he left off.

She entreated basic schools to take keen interest in gardening, saying through this venture the schools could raise some money from the sale of vegetables for their own upkeep.

Mr. Joseph Baidoo, Proprietor of the School, lauded OID for the honour, and hoped it would motivate them to strive for academic excellence.

Mr. Tony Fosu, Chief Executive Officer of Sinapi Aba, affirmed the company’s resolve to support schools in deprived areas to strive for quality education.
