Accra, July 28, GNA - The Japanese Government on Wednesday provided a grant of 103,388 dollars to the authorities of Dormaa Vocational Training Centre (DVTC) in the Brong Ahafo Region to construct a girls' hostel and ancillary facilities.
The grant is being provided under the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects Scheme (GGHSP).
Keiichi Katakami, Japan's Ambassador to Ghana, at a the signing ceremony in Accra, said women empowerment was the key to holistic national development and Japan was keen to contribute to aid development.
He said that construction of the eight-unit hostel would significantly increase enrolment of women from Dormaa Municipality and contribute to better student output.
The Japanese Ambassador urged the authorities to ensure the successful completion of the project to accelerate the education and development of Ghana's youth.
"To date, GGHSP scheme continues to support the Government of Ghana to achieve its development goals. And this project is certainly one of those that would enhance national development," he said.
Mr Richard Addo-Gyamfi, Centre Manager of DVTC, expressed gratitude to Japan for the gesture adding, completion of the facility would increase enrolment at the institution and aid in the socio-economic development of the youth in the area.
He pledged that the grant would be applied to the project and the hostel when completed would be well-maintained.
The GGHSP was established by the Japanese Government in 1989 to help non-governmental organisations and communities undertake self-help projects to promote economic and social development activities.
Currently, GGHSP has implemented 20 projects in Brong Ahafo Region and 222 projects nation-wide.
