Drobo (Brong Ahafo), 8 Oct.,

The Jaman District Assembly has at the end of August this year mobilised 801 million cedis out of an estimated 1.1 billion cedis for development projects in the district. This includes money released to the assembly from the district assembly common fund and the European Union fund. Mr. Mathew Gyasi, District Chief Executive for Jaman, made this known at the second ordinary meeting of the district assembly at the weekend. He said the assembly is injecting sanity into its revenue section to ensure maximum result in tax collection adding that tax education campaigns are being persued with vigour. He said besides administrative measures youth associations are being encouraged to help in the revenue collection for the assembly. Mr. Gyasi said distribution of development projects in the district is being done according to the ability of the beneficiary community to mobilise revenue and other resources to assist the assembly. He said the years 1996 and 1997 have seen the commencement of many development projects in the district including work on the Berekum-Sampa road and the connection of the district to the national electricity grid. Mr. Gyasi said the construction of the road is far ahead of schedule while it is expected that with the current pace of work on the electrification programme, many communities will have electric power before the end of the year.
