Jailed MP Rushed To Korle-Bu Hospital

The jailed Bawku Central MP, Adamu Daramani Sakande, was last Thursday rushed to the Cadio-Thoracic Centre at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital from the Nsawam Prison following a heart-related condition.

Daily Guide has learnt that Adamu Sakande, who felt unwell in prison where he is serving a two-year jail sentence, reported to the Nsawam Prison authorities about his condition and was asked to provide his hospital records. No sooner had he succeeded in convincing them that his condition became to deteriorate, compelling the prison authorities to rush him to the cardio centre where he was immediately admitted and said to be in a critical condition.

His response to treatment is unknown, but the hospital authorities are doing their best to stabilize him. Reports say the prison authorities wanted to chain him to his hospital bed as its done to hardened prisoners on admission but had to vary the standard because of the severity of his condition.

The decision to chain him to his bed was out of fear that he could flee. National Security operatives are however on a 24-hour guard at the centre. Adamu Daramani Sakande was recently slapped with a two-year jail term by an Accra Fast Track High Court for holding dual citizenship. The court ruled that he did not renounce his British citizenship properly before contesting the Bawku Central parliamentary seat.
