Jailbird steals judge’s goat

A notorious thief, who has been imprisoned for many years, is behind bars again for the stealing a pregnant goat belonging to the Obuasi Circuit Court judge, Gilbert Ayisi Addo.

Kofi Bosumbra, a 22-year-old jailbird, was on Friday sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by a District Magistrate Court in Obuasi after pleading guilty to the charge of stealing.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Juliana Apenteng, told the court, presided over by Yao Gbede that Kofi Bosumbra lives at Obuasi Central.

On July 16, 2013 at about 2am, he went into the ranch near the Obuasi Circuit Court and stole one pregnant goat belonging to the judge, Mr Ayisi Addo.

According to prosecution, the caretaker of the goats, Alhaji Tailor detected that a pregnant goat had been stolen the following morning when he visited the ranch.

She narrated that Alhaji Tailor subsequently informed its owner and other friends in the vicinity about the incident.

The convict, who killed the animal, sent it to an unnamed butcher to prepare the animal for him at a fee.

Inspector Juliana said the butcher, who had prior knowledge of the missing goat accordingly informed the complainant about it.

Alhaji Tailor identified the goat and the matter was reported to the police.

Kofi Bosumbra admitted the offence in his caution statement and was subsequently arraigned before court after police investigations.
