The Ghana Education Service (GES) has opened the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) portal for the capture and uploading of candidates’ school selection data for the 2026 school placement exercise.

The portal opened on Monday, August 24, 2026, and will remain accessible until Thursday, August 27, 2026, giving heads of Junior High Schools (JHSs) a four-day window to complete the process.

In a statement dated August 24, 2026, and addressed to all Regional Directors of Education, the GES directed all heads of JHSs to ensure that eligible candidates’ school selection data are captured, verified and uploaded within the stipulated period.

“Management of the GES wishes to inform all Heads of Junior High Schools (JHSs) that the WAEC portal for the online capturing and uploading of candidates’ school selection data for the 2026 placement exercise would be open within the four-day window,” the statement said.

The service further directed headteachers who had not completed uploading candidates’ school choices on the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal for pre-testing to do so before proceeding to capture and upload the data on the WAEC platform.

The GES said the arrangement was intended to ensure that schools complete the placement-related processes within the required timeframe.

It also noted that the WAEC portal allows the same school identification number and password to be used simultaneously on multiple computers.

“This facility is intended to enable schools with large numbers of candidates to capture and upload data concurrently, thereby facilitating the timely and efficient completion of the exercise,” the statement explained.

The GES has consequently tasked Metro, Municipal and District Directors of Education, as well as Examination Coordinators, to closely supervise and monitor the exercise.

They are expected to ensure that the data of all eligible candidates are properly captured, verified and submitted before the portal closes on Thursday August 27, 2026.

The statement also directed Regional Directors of Education to communicate the directive to all relevant schools in their jurisdictions and ensure strict compliance.

The GES urged heads of JHSs to take advantage of the four-day window to complete the exercise and avoid delays in the 2026 school placement process.
