A special service will be held on Thursday, 9 February 2017 at the Ridge Church, Accra, to mark a year’s anniversary of the murder of former Abuakwa North MP JB Danquah-Adu.

The MP died in his room at Shiashie at Accra from stab wounds allegedly inflicted by then-19-year-old Daniel Asiedu, who is in police grips together with an alleged accomplice.

“Tomorrow being exactly a year of his demise, we will hold a service at the Ridge Church in his memory. The widow will also have her ‘weed-off’ ceremony,” family spokesperson George Amoah told host Chief Jerry Forson on Accra100.5FM’s morning show Ghana Yensom on Wednesday, 8 February regarding plans to commemorate the event

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 8am, and Mr Amoah called on well-wishers to join the family mark a year of the passing of their departed relative.

Mr Amoah, however, said it was “shocking” that long after the incident, not much progress had been made regarding the trial of the accused persons in the homicide. “When you think about it you ask yourself: ‘What kind of country do I live in? Do the laws of the country work at all?’ It’s sad.

We keep our thoughts to ourselves,” he lamented. “We have several requests we wish to present before government so the trial can begin for the truth to come to light – who killed him, why was he murdered? All these we, the relatives, wish to know.

We desire to know in order to take a leaf from what happened. Not the family alone, but the nation can also learn from it, because one cannot be in his room and be attacked and killed like a goat…”

“So the family will do what it can to get authorities to help us so the case is called and the truth of the matter is made known.”
