J.H. Mensah advises against ''skirt and blouse'' voting

Offinso (Ash), Nov. 15, GNA - Mr J.H. Mensah, the Senior Minister, has advised New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters against voting for the Party's Presidential Candidate and voting for a Parliamentary Candidate from another party.

"Such a practice does not augur well for the strength of the Party and for democracy. Once you vote for the Party's Presidential Candidate you should vote for the NPP Parliamentary Candidate," he said. Mr Mensah was addressing a fund raising rally organised by the Offinso South Constituency of the NPP on Sunday.

He said voting for the NPP Presidential Candidate and refusing to vote for the Party's Parliamentary Candidate "does not indicate any affection for the President but rather an attempt to undermine the strength of the NPP and the President should he be elected".

"This pattern of voting known as 'skirt and blouse' shall not be entertained by the NPP and should be avoided by all members and supporters of the Party,'' Mr Mensah said.

Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of Communications and Technology, called on members of the Party to resolve to rally round the Party's Parliamentary Candidates.

He said those who were aggrieved and had decided to breakaway from the Party should be seen as people who were not committed to the democratic principles of the Party and only joined the NPP with a hidden agenda.

Mr Kan-Dapaah acknowledged the laudable contribution of Mr Kwabena Sarfo, the MP for Offinso South, and described him as an asset that the constituents should retain.

Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, Minister of Ports, Harbours and Railways, said it was improper for some independent candidates to use the NPP symbol for their campaigns.

He appealed to such candidates to stop the practise since they no longer belonged to the NPP and they had no mandate to use the Party's symbols.
