It's unethical for a teacher to film his class - Ali Tanti Roberts

The Executive Director of Youth Alliance for Development, Ali Tanti Roberts has said it is against the teaching profession for a teacher to film instructional times with students.

He explained, teachers are also not advised to use mobile phones or any other gadgets during instructional times and when a teacher wants to do something like that, he or she will need consent from both the parents of the students and the school.

‘’Even with that, the filming should be for genuine or educational purposes. The purpose should also not violate the laws,’’ he said.

He was responding to a video that has gone viral with a class five pupil asking his teacher how a man may be able to have sex with a woman with a bushy genital.

Ali Tanti Roberts said the question was not funny and the teacher could have found a better way to answer the pupil instead of making fun of him, filming and uploading it on social media.

According to him, children are more exposed to a lot of things and it does not mean the pupil who asked the questioned was bad.

‘’It is so unfortunate that a teacher will film a pupil and upload it on social media. It violates the teaching profession and exposes the minors. It is not funny and so, those doing so should be ashamed of themselves. They are denigrating the teaching profession.’’

He also expressed disgust at the filming of minors on television Christian channels operated by churches where these minors confess to being witches. The development he lamented deserves strict sanctions to deter others from doing so.

Ali Tanti Roberts stressed that the Ghana Education Service should take up the issue of teachers filming their teaching to bring sanity among teachers.

The teaching profession he noted is not just anyone looking for a job but a properly trained teacher.
