It’s not automatic for Asantes to belong to NPP - Former MCE

Former Municipal Chief Executive Officer for Obuasi has disputed claims the ruling New Patriotic Party is a political tradition deeply grounded in the Ashanti Region.

According to Kwesi Ofori Agyeman-Boadi, it is a wrong perception for anyone to conclude that Ashanti Region is the political home base of the ruling party.

Agyemang-Boadi was speaking to host of Abusua FM’s late afternoon drive time show, Ike De-Unpredictable on a wide range of issues in an up-close and personal discussion.

Asked by the host why a typical Asante man like him (Kwasi Ofori Agyemang-Boadi) has decided to be a staunch member of the National Democratic Congress instead of the NPP which is a party traditionally perceived to be for Asantes, the former MCE said “it’s not true every Asante is and must be NPP member.”

“In fact, even the NPP as a party cannot claim the Ashanti Region to be their stronghold…all their three political godfathers are not from Ashanti Region.”

“The NPP as a political party believes in the tradition of Danquah, Bussia and Dombo and none of the three men comes from the Ashanti Region…so tell me how this region belongs to NPP,” he wondered.

''Danquah is a native of Akyem in the Eastern Region, Bussia is from Brong Ahafo region and Dombo is from the Northern region and these are the powerhouse of the NPP’s political foundation…which of them is from the Ashanti Region”, he asked.

Agyemang-Boadi therefore does not understand why it will be expected of any typical Asante man to belong to the New Patriotic Party.
