It’s devilish to sideline us in recruitment – Jobless Graduate Teachers

A group calling itself Unemployed Graduate Teachers Association has given government a two-week ultimatum to absorb its members or face its wrath.

The group said although various vacancies exist within the teaching field, several efforts put up by them to get their members engaged by government have proved futile.

The Spokesperson for the group, Mark Donkor said the group was displeased in what they say is the dishonesty of the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education in dealing with them.

“When we went to the school to request for the assurance letter, the information that we had was that there are vacancies. Even some of the Headmasters complained bitterly that they need teachers but GES headquarters has warned them not to give anybody an assurance letter. The Headmasters and the Head teachers are handicapped in a way that they don’t have the mandate to recruit. Previously what we knew was that, for the Secondary School level, even the Headmaster there can recruit and process your documents through the IPPD or through the district and your information will get to Accra and you’ll be paid. We went back and gave this information to the GES and since then nothing has gone. No information, even now when we call the woman she doesn’t pick our calls, we’ll send her message and she won’t reply and those things,” he told Accra-based Citi FM

He further noted that the group was aware of an ongoing recruitment on the side, a situation he described as “devilish”
