It's Not Our Decision Not to Resettle Rawlings - Chief of Staff

The Chief of Staff Mr Kwadwo Mpianim says it is not the NPP government’s decision not to resettle former President Jerry John Rawlings, in accordance with the Green Street Report.

Mr Mpianim told Peace FM in an interview that prior to Mr Rawlings’ decision to settle at his current Ridge Residence, the government held a number of discussions with his spokesman and aide, Mr Victor Smith, who disclosed to them that, the former president “would love to live there”.

He said the government is currently in the process of furnishing the Ridge house to the required standards as stated in the Green Street report. Mr Mpianim noted that the office of the Chief of Staff ordered the former President, to return four of the five cars in his possession, so that the government could follow the procedure in the Green street Report.

The Chief of Staff was also not definite as to whether the government has provided the air ticket and other allowances for the former President to have his 6 week annual leave as stipulated in the Green Street Report. There have been speculations in the media that the Ex-President would finally resettle outside Accra, probably at Akosombo or Akuse in the Eastern Region.
