It's Not Only The Poor Who Steal - Greater Accra NDC

THE Greater Accra Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the pronouncements of the Vice-President , Alhaji Aliu Mahama, at a rally of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Koforidua seem to convey the erroneous impression that wealthy people cannot indulge in financial impropriety.

The party said the Vice-President’s address also sought to portray that people need to be financially sound before they can render genuine service to the country.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Kodjo Namoale Jnr, Secretary of the Communication Committee of the party in Accra.

According to the statement, Alhaji Aliu’s statement “ also gave the impression that all NPP functionaries in government are wealthy people whose financial positions and lifestyles would not change after another party assumes the political reins of the country”.

“The statement also seems to deprive the poor but very intelligent , committed and hard-working Ghanaians from contributing their quota towards national development through politics,” it said.

It added that the impression created by the statement indicates that poor people have no place in politics since their only motive would be to quench their thirst for an affluent lifestyle.
