It's ADISCO's Turn

Adisco Head Predicts 2008 'Old Boy' President

THE HEADMASTER of Adisadel College (ADISCO) in Cape Coast, Mr. Herbert Graham, has predicted that an alumnus of the school would emerge as a President of Ghana in 2008 general elections.

Although Mr. Graham did not mention the name of that alumnus, The Chronicle can report that the prediction matches Mr. Alan Kyeremanten, Trade and Industry Minister and PSI, who is an alumnus of the school and is vying for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential slot to lead the country in 2008 elections.

He said the school had produced prominent people who were occupying very important positions in Ghana and outside, adding that two alumni recently occupied top positions in two arms of government citing the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Ebenezer Sekyi Hughes and the late Chief Justice George Kingsley Acquah.

He was addressing the 97th speech and prize-giving day ceremony of the school at the school's assembly hall recently.

His analysis may be related to the fact that ex-President Jerry John Rawlings attended Achimota Secondary School in Accra while President John Agyekum Kufuor, the incumbent President, attended Prempeh College in Kumasi and that it was time for ADISCO to ascend to the throne. But whether his prediction will come true is yet to be seen.

He said the school achieved 65% passes in 2004 which shot up to 78% in 2005 and astronomically increased to 93% in 2006 and expressed the hope of achieving 100% this year.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Patrick Acheampong, who belongs to the 1967-year group of ADISCO, appealed to the students to eschew vandalism and hooliganism and strive hard to achieve academic excellence.

He urged them to be of good behaviour so as to become responsible leaders in future.

The school honoured the IGP for his hard work and dedication to the country.

Deserving students, teachers and non- teaching staff were rewarded for their dedication to work. Among them was Mr. Samuel Kobina Akator, who received US$1,000 as his reward for topping the 'Model Tutor' category while Rosemary Agbeko also received the 'Manager' award of US$ 300.

Three 1966 alumni of the school, Dr. Sam Mensah, Ricky Telfer and John Djokoto, based in Canada, presented Jazz instruments to revive the Adisadel Jazz Project.

The 1982-year group, who sponsored the ceremony, promised to fete 1,500 students of the school while the chief pantry worker, "Minoo", who has worked for 30 years in the school, was given cash reward for his dedicated service by the year group.
