It is unfortunate the Minority side is still bleeding from the election defeat wound - Ahiafor on Parliamentary brouhaha

Chairman of the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor Chairman of the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor

The Chairman of the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, has attributed the recent disruptions in Parliament to frustration on the part of the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, following the outcome of the December 7, 2024, election.

According to Ahiafor, the "overbearing attitude" displayed by Afenyo-Markin stems from disappointment over the election results.

“It is rather unfortunate that the Minority side is still bleeding from the election wound because their number was not expected by them,” Ahiafor stated in an in interview on TV3 on February 3, 2025.

“For me, he (Afenyo-Markin) is acting out of frustration as a result of the election defeat. They are bleeding from the election defeat.”

His comments follow disruptions in the work of the Appointments Committee, which led to the suspension of four Members of Parliament (MPs) by Speaker, Alban Bagbin.

The suspended MPs are Rockson Dafeamekpor, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Hassan Tampuli, and Frank Annor Dompreh.

The suspensions were triggered by chaotic scenes on January 30, 2025, when Minority members protested the continuation of the vetting exercise, citing exhaustion at 10:00 p.m. after a long day of work.

Despite the Minority’s calls for an adjournment, the Majority side insisted on proceeding with the vetting, leading to heated disagreements.

The altercation escalated into physical confrontations, resulting in the destruction of microphones and tables.
