It is criminal for someone to predict another person's death - Lawyer Afful

Human rights Lawyer and advocate, Lawyer Mary Ohenewaa Afful has revealed that it is criminal for anybody to predict the death of another person.

According to the Lawyer, Ghana’s constitution states clearly that threats of death amounts to "psychological violence". She has therefore urged people to legal actions against so-called men of God who prophesy other people’s death.

“For those of you who do not know the application of the law in every given situation & thinks that it is funny to play with people's lives & their minds should be very careful and ignorant of the law too is no excuse.

Why would it be someone's business to determine the death of another person. Of what purpose will that agenda serve. The law is explicit on threats of death. Telling someone that he or she will die amounts to psychological violence punishable under the laws of Ghana contrary to section 75 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (ACT 29)

Threat of death is to threaten any person with the intention of putting that person into fear of death. This is a second degree felony and jail term is 10years maximum and 5 years minimum.

That means anyone affected by a threat of death or so called prophecy can report the matter to the nearest police station as provided for by the laws of Ghana and ensure that the criminal prosecution or processes begins.



The affected person or the victim can as well institute a civil action to claim huge sums of damages by way of Special and General Damages as compensation for the pain caused and the embarrassments suffered as a result of the threat of death on the person. Know also that in law, compensation must always be commensurate with the injuries/ harm/ pain sustained.

If a pastor asks you to sow a seed or takes money from and promises you that you shall get pregnant, or get a job or get married or even gives you a lotto number etc. That is a binding contract and if you don't get the results, the pastor must refund your money to you to avoid the pastor being sued or arrested for fraudulent misrepresentation or whatever. So Pastors of today must be very very careful of cheap pastoral works”.
