'It is a sad day for us'– Sagnarigu MP mourns fallen comrades in military helicopter crash

The Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, Attah Issah, has described the passing of the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who also served as the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, as a devastating loss to the country and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of the military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several high-ranking officials on August 6, 2025, he stated that the country has lost leaders who embodied integrity and hard work.

"It is indeed a sad day for us because, as a government, we've lost serious compatriots, people who stood for trust and a governance style free of corruption," he stated.

He described the late minister as a man of impeccable character.

"Murtala is one gentleman you can never trace any corruption to. He always prided himself on integrity and hard work. Even at the time of the incident, he was on official duty, heading to a programme focused on the fight against galamsey, a cause he pursued passionately under his ministry.

"To us, as a party, we've lost serious comrades. The defence minister, a very good friend of mine whom I worked with at the party's head office for two years, is also gone. We've lost a former deputy minister and a host of other national officers", he added.
