Irate youth storm Ejura police station, carry motorbikes being prepared before court

Some irate youth in the Ejura Sekyeredumasi municipal have stormed the divisional police command in the town and carried away hundreds of motorbikes being prepared before court.

The unregistered motorbikes were seized during police operations in the town to enforce stability on the road and reduce the number of unnecessary accidents.

But the affected youth who were angry with the exercise the police undertook, stormed the command at about 7 am Saturday, forced their way into the command and brought out two motorbikes.

Reports said the youth have since absconded with all motorbikes parked at the station.

Most of the affected residents who are farmers claimed they could go to their farms without the motorbikes and therefore, the action of the police was not in their best interests.

The seized motorbikes were being prepared before court.

District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Richardson Kumako, has described the incident as unfortunate.

This is not the first time the police station has been attacked.

On Thursday, March 15 2018, about 200 irate youth stormed the same police station, attacked police personnel on duty and demanded that a driver who knocked down and killed two students with his car be released to them for instant justice.

The deceased were students of the Ejura Islamic Senior High School.

The youth, who were holding cutlasses, vandalised the station with stones and other crude weapons, forcing some of the officers on duty to run for cover.
